During a comprehensive eye examination by our experienced Doctor of Optometry, we evaluate various aspects of your vision, including eye movements, depth perception, and visual acuity. Additionally, we assess the internal and external ocular structures to screen for any potential eye diseases. Our comprehensive examination includes intraocular pressure readings, pupil dilation for better retinal examination, retinal photography to monitor eye health, and optional tests such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Visual Field Testing if needed.
It is recommended for children to have their first eye exam as early as six months old. It's important to note that children need not be verbal or know their letters to undergo an eye examination. Our specialized children's eye exams help screen for conditions like a lazy eye (amblyopia), eye turns (strabismus), nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or eye diseases affecting their vision development.
OHIP covers annual eye examinations for children aged 19 and under. Healthy seniors (65+) are covered for eye examinations every 18 months. Adults (20-64) and seniors (65+) with specific acute or progressively worsening eye conditions, as well as those with glaucoma or diabetes, are eligible for annual eye examinations. It's important to note that OHIP does not cover the contact lens portion of the eye examination or any retinal imaging.
